Soon as I read the foreword of this book, I knew it was going to be brilliant. I read it all in one sitting – it was that hard to put down! Tez’s humorous personality shone through, and his writing voice is just as witty as his live performances.
This was a brave book. Tez allowed us all to peek into the nitty-gritty parts of his childhood and how he, as a young Pakistani boy, living in the UK, if you can call Blackburn part of the UK, that is, viewed the world and people around him. He makes people who are having a bit of an identity crisis feel less alone!
Now, I’m not sure whether it was how well I related to the hilarious cultural references or what, but I found myself laughing out loud on so many occasions, and considering I spend a lot of time reading in public places, you can imagine the looks I was getting. But this book is not all jokes – it gets emotional and has you thinking a lot.
I could talk about this book all day – it was skilfully and tastefully written, and I think Tez is a genius.
I genuinely cannot recommend this book enough. My favourite reads of 2021 thus far.
